Superheroes and Comic Book characters have been popular for quite some time now, but it seems that they are getting bigger than ever. They are popping up in more movies, television shows and everywhere else, even in more and more video games. There are a lot of titles that center on comic book heroes available for your Android, and X-Men just happens to be one of them. Instead of creating a new video game for the Android, the X-Men video game revisits the classic X-Men arcade title from the early 1990s. It was a ton of fun to play then in the arcades, but how is it now?
About the Game
The classic X-Men arcade game from 1992 has been updated for the Android. It is pretty similar aside from the change of platform, which means very retro styling for this title. This low-fi style helps this game perform well on many devices with most users experiencing absolutely no lag. As you play, you advance ahead in the game, walking to the right (like almost every other game of that era) and fighting off the droves of adversaries and other evil doers that appear. You progress through the level until you have to battle with and defeat a boss. The game continues like this until you either beat the game or get bored with how repetitive it is.
The user interface has been adapted to be touch-screen friendly at times. At other times, the DPad and buttons necessary to playing the game is difficult and distracting. This makes the game even more challenging in a much less satisfying way. As mentioned, you can only go forward in the game, but you can walk to the left or right of the visible screen. You can jump, punch and use your character’s mutant power to defeat these enemies. You must, however, do all of this with the DPad, meaning that you may find yourself looking at it a bit more than you would like since you can’t actually feel it under your thumb.
If you grew up playing this game, you will most likely want this game on your Android. It stays true to the original 1992 arcade game, which means that for under a dollar, this could be a great piece of nostalgia and a fun way to pass some time. The game can get boring, and it can get boring fast. The gameplay all starts to look too much alike, and when compared to modern titles it seems so limited. The controls also leave a lot to be desired. The frustration of trying to get a good handle of the controls may drive a player away before they even manage to get bored. This game is great if you want the nostalgia of having the classic X-Men arcade title on your Android device. With the low price, it is in pretty much everyone’s budget. If you want exciting gameplay, with good graphics and user-friendly controls, X-Men is definitely not the game for you.
